RIAA Loses in Filesharing Case

Via ArsTechnica

The interesting thing about this case to me is that the plaintiff filed a motion for summary judgement after the RIAA failed to provide any evidence, including dates and files, of actual illegal downloading. The RIAA quickly buckled and asked to withdraw the case and the court approved, but named Foster the winner and awarded her attorneys feeds anyway. How quickly they back off when asked to prove their claims, and when there is potential that the suit won’t add to the millions they’ve made suing people. Of course they may also have been trying to avoid disclosing their methodology of gathering information about users, lest we see just how they’ve come to sue everyone from grandmothers to infants.
